Talker.zone — Real-Time Voice Platform
Technology Stack
- Python
- FastAPI
- LiveKit
- WebRTC
- PostgreSQL
- Nginx
- Deepgram
- OpenRouter
Product
Talker.zone offers voice rooms around the world for discussing any topic. The main engineering challenge was to keep product state, access rules and room discovery separate from real-time audio transport.
What I built
- Implemented a FastAPI control plane for users, room metadata and access flows.
- Used LiveKit and WebRTC as the media plane for bidirectional voice communication.
- Added PostgreSQL-backed persistent rooms instead of keeping the catalog in application code.
- Configured Nginx/SSL infrastructure and built a test voice-room flow.
Architecture
client → FastAPI control plane → PostgreSQL room state
client ↔ LiveKit/WebRTC media plane
The split lets the application own durable room state while LiveKit owns current participants and media sessions.
Result
- Produced a working MVP with persistent rooms and a clean control/media boundary.
- Visit https://talker.zone/ and be among the first to take part in testing.
